Live from Vegas: What happens in Vegas......

And you know the rest of this famous tagline that drives millions of visitors to Las Vegas. But what type of Queen would I be if I didn't fill you in on all of the best strategies, new connections, and innovative ideas that I am receiving at the 2015 NABA National Convention & Expo? Sharing is caring, right? Well I can't reveal EVERYTHING because I'm on a short networking break right now but I can't wait to share what happens when brilliant accounting and finance professionals from all over the world come together to celebrate a successful year as members of the National Association of Black Accountants.

So here it goes. I am going to provide you with a couple of educational session teasers so that you can be inspired to join us at the 2016 NABA Convention that will be held in Hollywood, Fl! See the vision, believe the vision, and you can achieve the vision of being at the next NABA convention! That's exactly how I made it to this convention.

The theme for this year's convention is "CONNECT. COLLABORATE. CULTIVATE. Bridging the generational divide". Scholarship Luncheon speaker, Dr. Randy Bradley, provided us with another theme for the event "Embracing and Leveraging Generational Differences". In Dr. Bradley's powerful keynote address, he spoke about the value that each generation brings and how we can collaborate to create a better tomorrow for the next generation. When speaking about Generation Y or as most people would say "millennials", Dr. Randy noted "I see people who want EVERYTHING and are doing EVERYTHING to get it".

There is definitely not a shortage of dynamic speakers and high performing leaders at the NABA Convention. It's even better when you meet someone with a career path that mirrors your dreams. As an aspiring international speaker, career consultant, diversity leader, and best selling author, it was a pleasure to meet Kaplan Mobray. Kaplan Mobray is known as one of the world's most dynamic inspirational business speakers and is the best selling author of "The 10Ks of Personal Branding". Kaplan provided me with great advice that I plan to implement immediately. Stay tuned!

Ms. Corporate America with Olympic Swimmer & Gold Medalist, Cullen Jones.

You never know who you will meet at the NABA Convention in Vegas! Cullen Jones inspired the audience with his compelling story of almost drowning at the age of 5 to becoming a 2 Time US Olympian, 4 Time Olympic Medalist, World & America Record Holder, & Motivational Speaker. This accomplished Olympic Swimmer and gold medalist was also a judge at the 2009 Miss America Pageant!

The sophisticated, strategic, and savvy Women of NABA came together to host "Breaking Glass - A Generational Look at Black Women's Ascent to the Top". Three phenomenal panelists from different generational eras spoke about certain challenges that prevent women from getting promotions and leading positions, thus, failing to climb the corporate ladder. An accomplished baby boomer, Cassandra Chandler, shared insights about Harriet Tubman's 10 Success Tips:

10. Develop a reputation for high standards.

9. Speak softly and carry a big stick. Speak with knowledge and confidence. Harriet spoke quietly but had a strong eye.

8. Fight the right fight. Choose your battles wisely.

7. Develop and ADVERTISE your expertise. Learn how to sell your strengths and share what you bring to the table.

6. Mentor, network, mentor.

5. Think before you speak about anything to anyone.

4. Challenge the status quo.

3. Be a visionary and BOLD strategist.

2. Prioritize YOU. You don't have to be everything to everybody.

1. You have to believe in something greater than yourself. This will give you the strength to move forward in the midst of trials and tribulations.

The Women of NABA Network Program was all about "Women Leading Women to Excellence" and this event was an excellent representation of that goal. All attendees received a stylish Women of NABA Network bag. Love it!

I wish I could continue blogging but there is more networking left for me to do. If you are in Hoffman Estates, IL on Saturday, June 13th, I would love to meet you at the Toastmasters Leadership Institute.  I will be delivering a special leadership session about moving from FEAR to CONFIDENCE to attract everything you desire. Hope to see you there! Register below.
