3 Pre-MBA resources that will lead you to your soul mate!

The pre – MBA dating game can be tough. There are a plethora of options and every school appears to offer attractive benefits on the face of the website. How do you choose the best school for you? These 3 pre-MBA resources will not only give you a chance to go on multiple dates with the most elite business school institutions, but will also provide you with MBA relationship counselors who will help you to determine the best business mate for your soul!

1)  MLT MBA Prep
Have you heard of Management Leaders for Tomorrow? It’s the ultimate match.com program of the business school world. Admission to the MLT MBA Prep program is extremely selective and will allow you to network with some of the most talented young leaders in America. But don’t be intimidated by the acceptance numbers. Be hopeful and give the application all you got. What’s the worst that could happen?  This selective enrollment process can work in your favor. Think about it. You’ve spent most of your professional life in the office with your colleagues. That means you have had limited opportunities to date unless you make the special effort to engage in the dating search and interview process after work hours or during the weekend. But that takes time! Who has that amount of time when they are trying to be on the cover of Forbes magazine as one of the wealthiest game changers of the 21st century?  Not I. So MLT does the work for you! They have identified the most promising and collaborative leaders who are committed to rising to the C-suite and opening doors for those behind them. Does that sound like the man or woman of your dreams? If so, thank MLT for the thorough selection process. I'm glad to say that I have witnessed an MLT born pre-MBA relationship turn into a marriage within a year! But please don't be led astray by my words of romance and finance. This is not about you finding your dream man or woman. That WILL happen. No need to worry about that. It's about exploring a program that will allow you to release the best of you so that you can attract the best that life has to offer. How does that sound? Nothing beats the feeling of falling in love with who you are and who you can become.

MLT provides high-potential underrepresented minorities with a winning professional playbook, one-on-one coaching and door opening relationships to accelerate their career paths to the highest levels.  The MBA Prep Program works! Check out the success rates:

·      98% of MLT’s MBA Prep fellows attend a top 25 business school (80% attend a Top 10 school)
·      MBA admission rates at the top ten business schools are three times greater for MLT’s MBA Prep Fellows than the schools’ applicant pool overall
·      40% of the Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans at Harvard Business School, Wharton, Kellogg and Columbia are MLTers.

Fun Fact: John Legend created the MLT Career Prep Program before his singing career took off.

Visit ml4t.org to find out more about the selection process and eligibility requirements. Application is available!

2)  Forte MBA Launch
Sorry Guys. Forte is only for the ladies. But here is the good news! If you want to impress that special lady in your life who is seeking to advance her career by pursuing an MBA, let her know about Forte and she will fall in LOVE with you! If she doesn’t, I will not be personally liable. Remember, I am Ms. Corporate America and not Ms. Love America.

Forte MBALaunch is a hands-on 10-month program for women intending to pursue an MBA degree. Forte MBA Launch for Women provides guidance, resources, and ongoing feedback on the business school application process including a one-day launch event, monthly webinars, peer group meetings, and feedback from experienced advisors.

Forte MBALaunch for Women will give you a clear road map to help you navigate the MBA application process. The line-up of speakers, workshops, resources, and advisors will help you “get it done” and inspire you along the way so that you feel good about your future and how the MBA will support your personal and professional goals.

3)  DMAC Conference
Don’t be mislead by the acronym.

The DMAC Conference is an annual event in Los Angeles that connects talented diverse, underrepresented and underserved candidates who wish to pursue a degree in business with Admissions Directors at top – tier business school. The conference allows attendees to interact directly with MBA Admissions Directors from the country’s top business schools, learn about the MBA Admissions process and the relative strengths of the attending business school’s curriculum and student culture. The conference has continually helped connect and place participants with top – tier MBA programs.

The Advantages of Attending DMAC
·      Meet Admissions Directors face to face
·      Get advice directly from Admission Directors
·      Workshops and panel discussions focusing on making you a top candidate
·      Top 20 MBA programs in attendance
·      The list continues!

Visit www.riordanalumni.com for more information about the DMAC conference.

I had the pleasure of taking advantage of all three of these pre-MBA resources when I was applying to business school. If you have any questions about the above resources, feel free to comment below.  If you are not eligible for any of the opportunities listed above, the list of resources does not stop here. Remember, there are multiple ways to find your soul mate. Be open, don’t judge a book by it’s cover, and trust your heart. The hardest thing for ambitious pre-MBA candidates to do is to follow your heart instead of following the crowd. Follow your heart all the way to the school of your dreams!

Going Beyond Beauty with Ms. Corporate America 2011: Meet Nancy Nguyen Liles, MBA!

It was Spring 2011.  I was on cloud nine. My adrenaline was rushing and I was on an emotional high like a kid in the candy store. My pageant DVDs had just arrived in the mail and I was going to have a pageant party with me, myself, and I. Woohoo! I inserted the DVD and watched the amazing women glide across the stage as they competed for the title of Miss Illinois International 2007. There was one young lady that immediately captured my interest because she was representing Chicago. She was vivacious, poised, and had a personality that glistened every time she spoke. There was something about her. I had to find out who Miss Chicago International 2007 was. As I was studying the movement and demeanor of the contestants, my mom calls me “Charlene, did you see this magazine from DePaul. There’s a girl with a crown in this magazine.” Crown? I paused my DVD and ran towards the magazine. (Yes! Crowns, pageants, glitz, and glam cause me to move like the energizer bunny!).  You would not believe who the dazzling young lady was with the crown. I couldn’t believe it myself. I unpaused my DVD to confirm that my eyes were not playing tricks on my. The woman who was competing as Miss Chicago International 2007 was also the woman who glistened in the DePaul magazine with the Ms. Corporate America crown on her head.

Meet Nancy Nguyen Liles! Ms. Corporate America 2011. DePaul MBA. Author of “The Networking Diary”. Entrepreneur. Organizational Leader. Writer. Speaker. AMAZING woman in business. I can go on and on but I will pause so that you can learn more about the woman who captured the Ms. Corporate America 2011 crown in 2011. An exclusive interview with Nancy Nguyen Liles revealed more about the Ms. Corporate America pageant and how she embodies the pageant mantra "Beyond Beauty".

1) How did the title of Ms. Corporate America 2011 accelerate your career ambitions and personal aspirations?

During my reign, I was able to meet entrepreneurs throughout the United States and share my book, The Networking Diary. Some of my favorite speaking engagements were at the National Collegiate Entrepreneur Organization (C.E.O.) and National MBA Associations. As a 2011 title holder, I was in my first year of business in Raleigh, NC. The workshops I attended during the pageant helped me apply new tools to help grow Sweet T Salon.

2) What opportunities were you able to take advantage of as Ms. Corporate America?

I loved the opportunity to speak on business radio stations, and do my salon's ribbon cutting with the MCA title. The best part of having the MCA title is the opportunity to support dozens of charities like the SPCA, Urban Ministries, Wake Smiles, Children's Home Society and more. As a business owner, I think that MCA has provided me with the friendships I have needed on my business journey.

3) Why is the Ms. Corporate America pageant relevant today?

Women around the world are watching American business women succeed in ways that may not have been possible decades ago. MCA uniquely brings together ethical business professionals and community leaders to highlight women's professional achievements in the workplace. This pageant is forward thinking and a wonderful platform for anyone (me or women) in business to be inspired.

Find out more about Ms. Corporate America 2011, Nancy Nguyen Liles! You can become the next Ms. Corporate America by visiting www.mscorporateamerica.com. The next pageant will take place from March 3rd-5th in Orlando, Fl.
