Special Appearance at the Miss Illinois Plus Pageant!

I applaud every woman who walks on stage with a passion, commitment, and desire to use her voice to change the world one person at a time. Behind every pageant journey, there is a story of a woman who could have given up and allowed life circumstances to bring her down. But this resilient woman refused to be defined by her problems. She moved forward recognizing that every perceived problem was a possibility for her to walk into a powerful purpose!

On Saturday, April 11th, I had the opportunity to watch a group of service driven women compete for the title of Ms. Illinois Plus America! I enjoyed watching the women own the stage and share their unique message with the audience. I was even asked to go on stage and share a few words of encouragement. My main message to the audience: Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. Never doubt the power within you. This could be YOU on stage. There is someone who needs to hear your message and pageantry could be the vehicle that allows you to share your gifts with the world!

Congratulations to Ms. Homewood Plus America Sonya Petty for taking home the title of Ms. Illinois Plus America! The Miss Illinois Plus America pageant is a platform-based pageant that promotes service. Sonya's platform, the HELEN project, an acronym developed based on her mom who recently passed away, was a powerful call to "Helping Elders Live Efficient Now". Sonya will advance to the national competition in Atlanta this summer. Congratulations to my fellow Toastmaster!!
